Sarah J. Arruda
| I have been making art from the time I could pick up
a pencil. I constantly drew as a child and often expressed my feelings
on paper. Another obsession of mine, even from my childhood days
was fantasy. My sister, my cousins, and I used to take walks through
my grandparents' enchanted woods looking for unicorns and faeries, or any
other mythical creature we might find along the way. We often went
faery catching, but always let them go at the end of our walk (you don't
want to make faeries too mad).
As I have gotten older, my love for these two things has not faded, but has remained true and strong. I truly believe I would not be happy doing any other thing. Up until college I was primarily self-taught with the exception of some wonderful help from my very artistic mother. My mother was always very encouraging with my art and my current endeavors, as well as my father. My dad is impressed that I made my website all by myself, and that I actually know how to use a computer. When I was younger I wouldn't even turn it on by myself, because I was afraid I might mess something up! I actually enjoy working on the computer now. I also enjoy working on my website and graphics programs like Photoshop. Aside from drawing and Photoshop, I like to oil paint, watercolor, and the occasional pastel, but I love sculpture! I just started making sculptures seriously in the end of 2001, and have been making them faithfully ever since. When it comes to sculpture, I am completely self-taught.
I have not taken any classes for it and learn by trial and error.
I spend much time on each of my creations, working out the finest details.
My creations are NEVER made with the use of molds, and each figure is one
of a kind. No two are ever made the same. I hope you enjoy
my work, and feel free to come back as often as you like to see what's
new. I try to update often...
I graduated from Ohio State with a Bachelor's in Art Education, and a Minor in Art History. I am currently a graduate student working towards my Masters. I have been in various art shows and artist walks within the past year, which I think help tremendously with experience. The following are galleries, exhibits, etc. I have been in recently: Elfwood Fantasy Gallery
